Welcome to Punch Drunk TV, where your intrepid hosts Jack Conway and Aaron Pruner navigate the often tumultuous Peak TV landscape -- one drink at a time.

Dec 7, 2018

It's a weird week here at Punch Drunk TV. Jack just got back from a sad trip with the wife and Aaron learned his deceased father used to do biker porn in the '70s. So get ready, things go a bit off-the-rails for a bit.

There's also some Oscars drama to discuss and the Golden Globe nominations were announced, so we sort through the most important TV nods. Who do you think should win?

  • Netflix canceled "Daredevil" but spent $100 million to keep "Friends" for another year.
  • Hulu solidified a deal with Sony's Funimation Ink, which will give Hulu exclusive U.S. streaming rights to international anime hits like "My Hero Academia," "Attack on Titan" and "Tokyo Ghoul." Hulu described the pact as its "largest agreement for anime programming to date." According to THR, "The deal also grants Hulu a first look at on-demand U.S. streaming rights to future anime series released by Funimation beginning in 2019. These future titles will premiere day-and-date on Hulu and Funimation with the worldwide premieres in Japan."
  • NBC has renewed "The Good Place" for a 4th season
  • SYFY is rebooting Rod Serling's other anthology series, "Night Gallery"
  • MTV is rebooting "Celebrity Death Match" with Ice Cube serving as executive producer
  • Kevin Hart has been tapped to host the Oscars. Not a day later, the Internet dug up old tweets featuring homophobic slurs. The Academy asked Hart to make a public apology. Hart refused. Then two hours later, he stepped down.
  • Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh will co-host the 2019 Golden Globes

AARON'S LOSER: "Sick Note"
JACK’S FENCER: "The Final Table"
AARON'S WINNERS: "Room 104," "Vikings," "Bumping Mics" and "South Park"
